Two Rivers Marathon Race Festival

The Two Rivers Marathon Race Festival is an annual race held in picturesque Lackawaxen PA. 2014 marks the third year for the event.

Part 3 of 3: This video covers the out and back along the Lackawaxen River. For marathoners, they will be on this road (Route 590) for 7 miles. For half marathoners, they will be on this road for 3/4 of a mile. Both events will have clearly marked turnarounds.

Part 2 of 3 of the Two Rivers Marathon and Half Marathon course video is now updated on youtube. It shows miles 5 to 11.75, which is the point that the athlete turns onto Rte 590 for the out and back along the Lackawaxen River. I recommend viewing 4:45 to 7:00 minutes into this video (little hills on the course) and 9:30 to 11:25 (end of video–shows turn onto Rte 590 and shows finish line).

Go to the elevation chart down the page on the link and you can drag a cursor along the line to see the elevation at every point of the course.

I am happy to announce that the Lackawaxen Volunteer Fire Department will be the beneficiary of the event this year, as well as future years. They do a great job (responding to more than 200 calls a year) and they are great citizens of the community. I am happy to help contribute to their organization in any way I can.

I’m working my way through the emails you are sending with questions about the event. I expect to be up to date on replies by this evening.

Registration numbered soared over 300 today. Only 60 were signed up at this time last year and 330 ended up racing.

New for 2014:

Your name will be printed on the race bib if you register by March 1, 2014. This turns the race bib into a collectible!

I listened to your feedback from the 2013 race!

–Mile marker signs at every mile (as well as paint on the road surface)

–Signs that can’t be missed at the turnarounds (marathon, half-marathon, 10k and 5k)

I hope you’ll find the race pricing an incredible value after you’ve experienced the event and obtained the race sweatshirt, finisher’s medal, post race barbeque, and, hopefully, an award!

The course map is located here:

http://www.usatf.org/events/courses/maps/showMap.asp?courseID=PA12012WB

It is a certified Boston Marathon qualifying course.

The half marathon follows the marathon course. At Masthope Plank Road and Rte 590, mile 11.75, the half marathoners will turn right, as will the marathoners. The half marathoners will go out Rte 590 for about .75 miles, then turnaround and head back to the finish area.

The course elevation map is posted here:

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/60304343

Registration is available here: https://register.bazumedia.com/reg/form?eventID=5325

The race features excellent apparel, finisher’s medal for the marathon and half marathon, a commemorative glass and unique race awards.

We don’t have artwork ready yet for 2014. This year’s apparel features a hooded long-sleeved tech shirt for the marathon, half marathon and 5k/10k/half marathon series competitors. Athletes competing in the 5k or 10k only will receive a short sleeve t-shirt.

The hooded long-sleeved tech shirt is from www.lesliejordan.com and is beautiful:

FAQs

1. Will you have water & Sports drinks at least every two miles? preferably every mile after 18 miles.
Yes, water and Gatorade will be at every aid station. Aid stations are every two miles. Miles 11.75 to 19.8 are running out alongside the Lackwaxen River. You then return the same way. There are 4 aid stations there (12, 14, 16, 18). The turnaround is at 19.8, then aid at 20, 22 and 24. I think there will be 8 aid stations from 12-24 miles.
2. Will you have some fluids & veg.soup or snacks at the finish line? and hopefully vegetarian.
We will have some vegetarian hot food at the finish. Plenty of fluids and food. I literally had a ton of food at the finish last year but we had a difficult time cooking it–there was lots going on. The race had 70 people the first year. Two weeks before the second race, we had 75 people. 330 people ended up racing. The race exploded in the last two weeks and it overtaxed my planning. I will be ready this year. We have 144 registered as of today (Jan. 2)
3. Will you have timing mats both at Start & Finish to clock Net times?
Yes, start line and finish line mats, as well as half marathon and 19.8 mile turnaround. I own a timing company.
4. Will you start the race on time? Late comers can always start late without waiting for them. Their time won’t be affected if you have timing mat at the start as they will have net time. B-tags are very common now, some still use chips for net times.
The race will start on-time. We have the theater at Woodloch Resort for race day check-in and warmth this year. It is 1/4 mile from the start. Therefore, people can take the shuttle from the finish area. It will be their responsibility to get to the shuttle on-time.
5. Why two marathons in two days? wouldn’t it affect the quality of the race organization?
Last year, we had about 25 Marathon Maniacs. They love to do two marathons in two days and asked if I could do that. I live 5 miles from the start and finish and my house is on the course. Since I have a timing company as well, it makes sense to have the 2 days of racing without incurring massive extra costs to put on the races.
